Biography of Monica M. Tsui, W’83
Ms. Tsui is Managing Director of EMP-Daiwa Capital Asia as well as the PAMA Group (“PAMA”). Ms. Tsui has held various positions at PAMA based in Hong Kong and Singapore with responsibilities in acquisitions, post investment monitoring and divestments, operations, fund formation and investors relations. Since December 2003, she is a member of the Investment Committee.
Ms. Tsui started her career in 1983 when she joined The Chase Manhattan Bank, N.A. in Hong Kong. After going through the one-year credit training program and spending over two years as marketing officer of the Corporate Banking Group, she joined PAMA in 1987 as Associate responsible for private equity investment activities in North Asia. Ms. Tsui moved to Toronto, Canada in 1988 where she spent the first year with the merger and acquisition consulting group of Ernst & Young and the following three years with a Canadian merchant bank responsible for managing a subordinated debt fund. She moved back to Hong Kong in 1992 to join HSBC Private Equity Management Ltd. before re-joining PAMA in 1993.
Ms. Tsui is on the Executive Committee and is currently the Vice Chairman of the Hong Kong Venture Capital and Private Equity Association. She is a member of the judging panel of business plan competitions for the HSBC Young Entrepreneur Awards and for the Young Entrepreneurs Development Council. She is also a member of the project assessment panel of the Small Entrepreneur Research Assistance Program. Ms. Tsui is a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder. She graduated from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Economics degree majoring in finance and international business. She is a Hong Kong native and is fluent in English, Cantonese and Mandarin.
